Resident Life
Engaging Recreational Activities for All Residents
At LUTHERAN HEALTHCARE CENTER, the Activities Staff provides a variety of stimulating and purposeful activities each day that are appropriate for residents’ physical and/or cognitive capabilities.
Activities include exercise programs, sing-a-longs, indoor and outdoor gardening, weekly barbecues during the summer, arts and crafts, concerts, bingo, word games, bowling, ice cream socials, inter-generational socials and outings.
A Certified Music Therapist provides therapeutic music groups, as well as individual sessions for our cognitively impaired residents. In addition, an intergenerational music program with children from a local daycare is offered.
Resident Council meet monthly and the Family Council meets several times during the year to explore ways to enhance the quality of life at LUTHERAN HEALTHCARE CENTER.
The Family Council coordinates family events to celebrate special occasions with residents and with one another. In addition, the Family Council hosts a quarterly pot-luck dinner to bring residents, family members and staff together in an informal, yet supportive, setting.
The Resident Council at LUTHERAN HEALTHCARE CENTER is an active organization that accomplishes many projects and goals. Its fundraising efforts resulted in the beautiful landscaped backyard garden with its gazebo. The Council also provides the residents with a forum in which to bring concerns and ideas to the LHC staff.
Special celebrations for residents and family members include the annual December Smorgasbord, the Trinity Lutheran Church Christmas Party, the January Black & White Festival, and the Annual Spring Garden Party. Families are especially encouraged to share festive holiday meals with their loved ones.

Spiritual Life
Our chaplain, Pastor Ken Bean, is available to people of all faith traditions and offers pastoral care, prayer and confidential conversation to all. He conducts a monthly service of Holy Communion and bible study and arranges for Lutheran worship services every Sunday to be led by the area Lutheran pastors. In addition, the chaplain leads a quarterly service of remembrance celebrating the lives of residents who have died. These provide added support to families, residents and staff as they grieve.
Pastor Bean has been serving as chaplain of the Lutheran Home of Worcester since 1978. By his weekly presence, he provides visitation, counsel and support for residents and staff alike.
In addition, LUTHERAN HEALTHCARE CENTER is pleased to have the services of the priests from our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church, who celebrate a monthly mass. A weekly Rosary group is also held for the Roman Catholic residents.
Residents’ own clergy are welcome to come to LHC to offer their members pastoral support.
