VISION FOR THE FUTURE

Expansion & Renovation of Lutheran Healthcare Center

LUTHERAN HEALTHCARE CENTER (formerly the Lutheran Home of Worcester) has been serving elders in the community since 1920.  Today, this landmark institution in the heart of Worcester has a new Vision for the Future to meet the needs of today’s older adults while preserving a great tradition of care.

The aging baby boom generation is demanding more and better short term rehabilitation programs that enable them to return home as soon as possible following hospitalization for illness or surgery.  Lutheran Healthcare Center plans to expand and upgrade its rehabilitation and therapy capabilities in order to meet these needs.  It will also remodel current resident living and activity space to modern specifications to better serve the long-term care residents.   The addition of the Paul and Carol Kennedy Wing, named for two long-term friends of this institution, will add 9,200 feet of resident living and therapy space.

Lutheran Healthcare Center will include a new wing and the
following major renovations:
  • A new addition to accommodate 26 single and double occupancy rooms equipped with modern amenities. The addition will add 9,200 square feet of resident living and therapy space.
  • 1,400 square feet of remodeled rehabilitation space with state-of the art therapy equipment (including physical, speech and occupational therapy) to enable residents to achieve optimal functioning and return to their homes prepared to manage the activities of daily living.
  • Integrated professional rehabilitation client planning delivery program.
  • Enhanced medical and nursing service programs to meet residents’ psycho-social, medical and spiritual needs.
  • Conversion of all current three-bed rooms to two-bed rooms to provide residents greater privacy and comfort.
  • Renovation of existing 42 rooms, 21 of which will provide expanded rehabilitation space.
  • Updating the interior design to provide refreshed décor and new furnishings throughout.
  • Expanded day rooms to provide more space for socializing.
  • Expanded resident and visitor parking.
  • Central oxygen delivery system.
  • Three state-of-the-art-bathing suites.
LUTHERAN HEALTHCARE CENTER has had few better friends than Carol and Paul Kennedy.  As senior Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Worcester, the Rev. Dr. Paul Kennedy spent many hours of pastoral ministry at the Home.  Since retiring, his involvement has not slowed down.  He served as chair of the 75th anniversary committee, sat on the LHC program committee and is past chair of the board of directors. Carol Kennedy has been equally devoted to the Lutheran Home. She was a valued staff member at the Lutheran Home for 17 years and continues to be a frequent visitor. Carol and Paul Kennedy
